About this book
-
I’m Dex Burke, the creator of this book. “Authored” might be too formal a word. My role is to combine accurate route information, local knowledge, and high-quality photography to showcase some of Oregon’s best places to paddle. This book draws on years of exploring Oregon’s lakes, rivers, and coastal waterways, along with research and cross-checking against existing resources to ensure the information is both accurate and useful. One of the challenges of creating a paddling guidebook is that conditions can vary considerably depending on water levels, currents, weather, and seasonal access. While route descriptions, distances, and launch locations are important, the real strength of this book lies in its large, detailed photographs. They offer a unique perspective on each waterway, helping paddleboarders and kayakers visualize their routes, identify landmarks, and get a better sense of what to expect before heading out. I hope this book inspires you to discover new places, revisit old favorites, and experience more of Oregon from the water. Most of all, I hope you find it as useful and enjoyable to explore as it was for me to create.
